New Life Asher House is the dedicated Adoption Program and second Sanctuary location of The Asher House. Nestled on 140 acres along the western edge of Oregon’s beautiful Willamette Valley, it’s a place where rescue dogs can run in open fields, splash in the creek, and play with friends while they wait for their forever homes.
New Life Asher House was born from a heartfelt collaboration between The Asher House and Family Dogs New Life Shelter—a trusted name in Portland’s rescue community for over 20 years. Together, we’ve created a one-of-a-kind sanctuary focused on adoption, healing, and hope. Combining the strengths of both organizations allows us to make a greater impact and help more animals in need.
We are committed to providing a safe, peaceful, and enriching environment for all animals in our care until their adoptive families can be found! Offering them a place to feel loved and protected for as long as needed.
Our Adoption Center in Portland, Oregon makes it easy for families to meet available dogs, complete paperwork, and bring home their newest family member.
While our primary focus is dog adoption, the New Life Asher House sanctuary location is also home to rescued farm animals—including cows, pigs, goats, donkeys, and horses. If you have fur or hooves, we’ll fall in love!
Our 2nd sanctuary and adoption program is made possible by adoption fees and the generosity of supporters like you. Each month, about 20 new dogs find safety here, joining nearly 80 resident animals — from dogs and horses to cows, goats, pigs, and donkeys. Your donation helps give them the care, love, and second chances they deserve.

We know how exciting the thought of visiting the sanctuary and interacting with all of the dogs and rescue animals is, but the truth is it’s far more stressful on the pups than you might expect. Above all else our goal is to provide a safe and peaceful environment for the animals in our care, so it is important that we keep the sanctuary a place that is calm, low stress and a routine that is as stable as possible for them.
We also have three 24-hour care givers who live at the sanctuary, so we like to provide them some level of privacy as well. We work hard to share a little bit about our day to day life at the sanctuary on our social mediapages so that you can have the opportunity to feel like you are part of the experience.
All of our adoption appointments are currently scheduled at our New Life Asher House Adoption Center in Portland OR. When you schedule an appointment to meet one our adoptable dogs we will bring that pup(s) from the sanctuary to the adoption center at that scheduled time for their meeting with you. Should an adoption meeting go well and be approved all adoption paperwork is completed at that time and your new pup goes home with you!
We do adopt to families who live out of state, however we do not ship or transport dogs. So all potential adopters must be able to travel here to the New Life Asher House Adoption Center for their adoption appointment. Currently our adoption area includes all areas of Oregon, Washington state and Idaho.
Lee is busy working hard at the Salem sanctuary location, so he will not be at the Adoption Center. But our awesome adoption team is ready to help you out!
Yes! New Life Asher House is the adoption program of The Asher House, we also have an adoption focused sister property. This program began as a collaborative effort between The Asher House and Family Dogs New Life Shelter; a shelter that had been part of Portland’s rescue community for over 20 years.
Making the decision to join the strengths of both of these organizations felt like the best possible way to have the greatest impact on animal rescue and help as many dogs as possible. Creating this wonderful 2nd sanctuary location; focusing on growing an adoption program as part of The Asher House organization has allowed us to expand our reach and help even more animals in need.
Family Dogs New Life foundersTasha& Justin are now the directors of New Life Asher House adoption program, the sister sanctuary location, as well as the New Life Asher House Adoption Center. The whole Asher House team works together to keep all sanctuary locations running smoothly.
It is! We have a wonderful team of full & part-time animal care givers and adoption counselors. New Life Asher House directors live on the sanctuary property, along with a 3rd 24-hour care giver. The whole Asher Team works together to keep all our sanctuary locations running smoothly.
