OCTOBER UPDATE:

Fall seems to be the favorite time of year for the animals at the sanctuary.The weather is cooler and hikes are a little bit longer through the colorful tree-lined trails. The dogs have a joyful energy about them, which is rather contagious. Both the Salem and Lebanon properties are preparing the grounds for winter. This involves putting down gravel for mud control during the rainy season, getting sand in the livestock and horse arena, and finishing up the outdoor shelters, which offer protection when the kiddos want to play outdoors. 

New Life Asher House (NLAH) is officially up and running, and at any given time, NLAH has about 40 dogs and a variety of livestock. We just took in new cows who arrived earlier this week, and the new Puppy Playhouse has just been completed (pictured above). This location is also free-roaming, meaning the dogs play and roam all day, and sleep in the cozy new kennel building at night. Directors,Tasha and Justin have been using this model for over 20 years at their previous rescue.The pack environment allows the dogs to decompress from any kennel stress that they may have had inside of a shelter, and gives their true personalities an opportunity to shine through.

Collectively, we have adopted out 58 dogs in the last 10 weeks! We currently only adopt to Washington, Oregon and Idaho because the dogs and potential adopters can meet ahead of time to ensure that it is a good fit. We also like to stay within a reasonable distance so that any needed support or resources can be easily offered. We pull a lot of dogs from California shelters, so we want to encourage California residents to adopt directly from their local shelters and rescues. SEPTEMBER UPDATE:

New Life Asher House is a rescue & sanctuary located on the western edge of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Situated on 140 acres with fields to run in, a creek to splash in and plenty of friends to play with. It is a true wonderland for dogs!

Founded in November 2023, New Life Asher House is the 2nd Sanctuary location of The Asher House organization, born of the collaboration with Family Dogs New Life Shelter; who’d been an established part of Portland’s rescue community for 20 years before joining The Asher House. We knew that together our two organizations would bring a unique and inspiring approach to animal rescue.

Our mission is to provide a safe, peaceful, enriching environment for the animals in our care until their adoptive families can be found. Allowing them a place to be loved and protected for as long as needed.

Our Adoption Center located in Portland Oregon gives families the opportunity meet our adoptable dogs, complete all adoption paperwork and take their new pup home. You can learn more about our adoption appointment procedure HERE

We work hard to provide the best of care for the animals at our rescue & sanctuaries; a large animal care team, 24-hour on-site care givers, an onsite Asher House Veterinary Clinic is currently in the works and there is no shortage of canine cuddlers.

Our primary mission here at New Life Asher House is to rescue dogs in need, but we also provide sanctuary to farmed animals including cows, pigs, goats, chickens, ducks, and horses of all sizes. If you have fur or feathers, we’ll fall in love.
